Browns hoping to have Jordan Cameron back

BEREA, Ohio - Even with a bye week around the corner, Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron is working toward being able to play in Sunday's game vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

Cameron sprained the AC joint in his shoulder in the preseason and aggravated the injury in the season opener at Pittsburgh, keeping him out of last week's game vs. New Orleans.

But Cameron was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice and was on the field in full pads on Thursday.

"We're cautiously optimistic," Browns coach Mike Pettine said. "He was able to move around (Wednesday) but we weren't in pads. It will be a better test today."

The Browns don't want to rush Cameron, especially with extra rest coming, but his presence makes the offense more versatile and more dangerous. An 80-catch season last year included Cameron catching 5 passes for 95 yards in an early-season game vs. the Ravens.

"I won't say (we're erring) on the side of caution, but it's one of those things you can't really rush back and make it worse," Cameron said. "It's definitely day by day."

Cameron caught 2 passes for 47 yards in the opener and has developed chemistry with Brian Hoyer. Cameron's best game as a pro came last September in Hoyer's second start, when the pair connected 10 times for 91 yards and a touchdown in a win over Cincinnati.

When the Browns took to the practice field Thursday afternoon, running back Ben Tate was the only player on the active roster not dressed and participating.

"It makes life easier when you have a big target who's very talented," Hoyer said. "I think it's easy for me to find a guy like that. I think a lot of it is throughout the progression, and even going back to last year, I think the tight end was very important in the offense and same thing now this year. It helps when you've got a guy who's a Pro Bowl caliber player."
