Brewers minor-league stars of the week: Aug. 3

Each week FOXSportsWisconsin.com identifies the best pitcher and position player from the Milwaukee Brewers' top four main affiliates: Triple-A Colorado Springs, Double-A Biloxi, High-A Brevard County and Low-A Wisconsin. Here's a look at all eight stars who made the list this week.

TRIPLE-A COLORADO SPRINGS (3-4)

Player of the Week: Matt Clark

Week stats: .414 (12 for 29), 1 HR, 4 RBI

Recent highlights: For the second week in a row, Clark gets the offensive honor for the Sky Sox. He had three multi-hit contests, including back-to-back games with three hits apiece to close the week. The 28-year-old first baseman also had a couple of doubles, drew three walks and scored five runs. For the season, Clark is batting .274 (.776 OPS) with 14 home runs and 53 RBI in 96 games.

Pitcher of the Week: Tim Dillard

Week stats: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Recent highlights: It wasn't a great week for Colorado Springs' starting rotation, so the long relief pitcher gets the nod. Dillard made one appearance, Aug. 1 against Iowa, after Josh Roenicke gave up 14 hits and 11 runs in four innings. The 32-year-old journeyman right-hander threw four innings of no-hit ball, allowing just a walk, while striking out a season-high six batters. On the season, Dillard 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA (1.54 WHIP) and 34 strikeouts to 17 walks in 39 2/3 innings. 

DOUBLE-A BILOXI (3-3)

Player of the Week: Tyrone Taylor

Week stats: .438 (7 for 16), 1 2B, 2 RBI

Recent highlights: Taylor had three multi-hit games last week, raising his batting average nine points. In Biloxi's July 28 loss to Jackson, Taylor had two hits, a double and drove in two runs. The 21-year-old center fielder had two walks, a stolen base and did not strike out during the week. For the season, Taylor is batting .267 (.657 OPS) with 15 doubles and 33 RBI in 96 games.

Pitcher of the Week: Tyler Wagner

Week stats: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Recent highlights: In the Shuckers' July 31 win over Jackson, Wagner pitched a complete game shutout (due to rain, it was called after seven innings), allowing just one hit and three walks. It was his second straight strong game, building on last week's performance when he pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out 11. For the season, the 24-year-old right-hander is 8-5 with a 2.38 ERA (1.12 WHIP) and 91 strikeouts to 32 walks in 113 2/3 innings.

HIGH-A BREVARD COUNTY (2-5)

Player of the Week: Angel Ortega

Week stats: .381 (8 for 21), 1 2B, 2 RBI

Recent highlights: During a quiet week for Manatees batters, Ortega at least hit the ball a little bit. He had two multi-hit games, including a three-hit performance in Brevard County's Aug. 2 win over Jupiter. During the week, the 21-year-old shortstop had a double, two RBI, two runs scored and struck out just once. For the season, Ortega is batting .220 (.503 OPS) with 10 doubles and 24 RBI in 99 games.

Pitcher of the Week: Wei-Chung Wang

Week stats: 13.1 innings, 10 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K

Recent highlights: In two starts this week, Wang went 1-1 and allowed just one earned run. The 23-year-old left-hander struck out eight combined batters and walked three. For the season, Wang is 8-3 with a 3.80 ERA (1.42 WHIP) and 69 strikeouts to 35 walks in 106 2/3 innings.

LOW-A WISCONSIN (2-4)

Player of the Week: Carlos Leal

Week stats: .304 (7 for 23), 2 R

Recent highlights: In a light-batting week for the Timber Rattlers, Leal's seven hits stood out. None of them were for extra bases, but twice he had multi-hit games, including three in the Aug. 2 loss to Quad Cities. The 24-year-old catcher struck out seven times and only walked twice, but kept his batting average high. For the season, Leal is hitting .324 (.805 OPS) with 15 doubles and 28 RBI in 71 games.

Pitcher of the Week: Jon Perrin

Week stats: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

Recent highlights: In Wisconsin's July 30 loss to Peoria, Perrin threw five innings, allowing only three hits and no walks. The 22-year-old right-hander's five strikeouts were a season high. For the year, Perrin, pitching in both starting and relief roles, is 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA (0.95 WHIP) and 27 strikeouts to just six walks in 30 2/3 innings.
