Brewers claim 1B Aguilar, designate Adrianza

Jesus Aguilar led the International League with 30 home runs last season.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Thursday that they have claimed first baseman Jesus Aguilar off waivers from the Cleveland Indians.

The Brewers also designated infielder Ehire Adrianza for assignment, just days after claiming him from the San Francisco Giants.

Aguilar, 26, was designated for assignment by Cleveland last week after the Indians claimed fellow infielder Richie Shaffer from the Cincinnati Reds.

Aguilar spent parts of three seasons with the Indians, appearing in 35 games and hitting .172 with a .235 OBP and a .190 SLG.

He spent the bulk of last season with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers, hitting .247/.319/.472 with 127 hits, 92 RBI and 62 runs, while leading the International League with 30 home runs, in 515 at-bats.
