Brewers' Bianchi reinstated from disabled list

MILWAUKEE -- While his return from the disabled list is imminent, Aramis Ramirez won't be the one filling the roster spot vacated when outfielder Khris Davis was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday.

Instead it will be Jeff Bianchi, as the Brewers have reinstated the infielder from the 15-day disabled list, joining the team in time for Thursday night's game against St. Louis.

Bianchi, 26, was placed on the disabled list on March 27 after battling hip bursitis during spring training. The hip injury limited Bianchi to just eight spring training games and forced him to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic, as well.

Making his Major League debut last season with the Brewers, Bianchi hit .188 with three home runs and nine RBI in 33 games. His ability to play shortstop, third base and second base will give the Brewers another versatile option off the bench.

Bianchi began a rehab assignment with Double-A Huntsville on April 13 and hit .250 with one home run and seven RBI in 15 games between the Stars and Triple-A Nashville. The allotted time on his rehab assignment was set to expire Friday, meaning the Brewers had to add him to the active roster by then or designate him for assignment.
