Brewer, Turiaf to join Wolves' fan-friendly 2014 Summer Caravan
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Timberwolves' annual offseason fan-outreach sojourn, despite a topsy-turvy offseason for the franchise, is sure to elicit some laughter.
Perhaps the club's two most boisterous personalities, Corey Brewer and Ronny Turiaf, will be on hand for Minnesota's 2014 Summer Caravan, the team announced Monday. This year's caravan will make stops Wednesday, Aug. 6 in Owatonna, Minn.; Thursday, Aug. 7 in St. Cloud and Friday, Aug. 8 in Eau Claire, Wis.
Assistant coach Ryan Saunders, the son of president of basketball operations and head coach Flip Saunders, will make the rounds as well.
They'll accompany Wolves mascot Crunch and a handful of team staffers to drum up interest in an organization that saw Flip Saunders name himself head coach and is currently in the process of trading star player Kevin Love. Turiaf and Brewer, both known for their efficacious personas, ought to distract from the reality that Minnesota, once again, will likely be rebuilding this season.
But the event caters to a younger, less jaded demographic, anyway. Each site will host a free basketball clinic for kids ages 5-16, followed by a session for autographs and pictures.
Turiaf won't be at the Aug. 8 clinic.
Here's the complete schedule for this year's Timberwolves Summer Caravan:
Wednesday, Aug. 6; Owatonna High School; 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
Thursday, Aug. 7; St. Cloud Apollo High School; 9:30-11 a.m.
Friday, Aug. 8; Eau Claire YMCA; 9:30-11 a.m.
