Boykin adds flip to Heisman résumé

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has played his way into Heisman contention because of his team's record and his eye-popping statistics.

Saturday night Boykin added an eye-popping play.

Boykin put the Frogs up 24-7 with 13:36 remaining in the third quarter against Kansas State with a 19-yard score that ended with Boykin getting hit and then flipping over for a touchdown.

The play electrified the crowd at Amon G. Carter Stadium as the No. 6 Frogs rolled to a 41-20 win. Boykin, who threw his 23rd touchdown pass of the season and ran for a career high 123 yards and a score, has dabbled in acrobatics but nothing like that flip.

"When I was little I could do backflips all day," Boykin said. "I can't do a forward flip, but I did today. I can't necessarily do that on an everyday basis but I can do backflips all day."

While it may have been a signature play, the coaching staff would rather see Boykin play it safe with his body. He's too important to the success of the team to be turning flips on a regular basis.

"There were a lot of things I'm not comfortable with," Patterson said. "None of us want to see him go tumbling anywhere. He's got to be smart. He is what he is."
