Blues place Edmundson on IR with broken arm, recall Butler

ST. LOUIS -- When defenseman Joel Edmundson blocked a shot in the first period of the St. Louis Blues' win over Colorado on Thursday, the result was costly: a broken right forearm that will sideline him for at least six weeks.

The Blues announced Friday that Edmundson, who absorbed a hard shot by former teammate Nail Yakupov, had undergone successful surgery and was placed on injured reserve. He will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Edmundson's surgery was performed by Dr. Charles Goldfarb, Dr. Matt Smith and Dr. Rick Wright of Washington University Orthopedics and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

To fill his roster spot, the Blues recalled defenseman Chris Butler from the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.



Edmundson, 24, has dressed in 56 games this season, setting a new career high with six goals and tying a career best with 15 points.  The 6’4, 215-pound defenseman is currently in his third season with the Blues after the club drafted him in the second round, 46th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.  Overall, the Brandon, Manitoba, native has collected 39 points (10 goals, 29 assists) and 176 penalty minutes in 192 career regular season games.

Butler, 31, has appeared in 47 games for the Rampage this season, leading the team’s defense with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists).  A native of St. Louis, the 6’1, 205-pound defenseman has amassed 84 points (13 goals, 71 assists) in 388 career NHL regular season games, including stints with Buffalo, Calgary and St. Louis.
