Blue Jackets top pick Milano passes up Boston College for OHL
The Blue Jackets' first-round pick Sonny Milano has decided to revoke his commitment to Boston College and will instead go straight to the Ontario Hockey league to prepare for his pro career.
Milano, who was selected by Columbus with the 16th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, flew to Boston over the weekend to inform Eagles coach Jerry York.
"Sonny has informed me he will sign a contract with Columbus," coach Jerry York announced through the team's official Twitter feed. "They will dictate his path as he embarks upon his pro career."
According to BlueJackets.com, an agreement on an entry level contract has not yet been reached between Milano and the Blue Jackets, but with Milano under contract, it's expected that he will participate in both the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., and Blue Jackets training camp in September.
Milano played in the USHL (U.S. National Team Development Program), which usually is a pipeline to college. However, Plymouth is one of the most respected major-junior programs and Milano will play nearly twice as many games as he would have at Boston College.
