Billikens' season ends with 73-65 A-10 tourney loss to George Washington

NEW YORK -- Yuta Watanabe scored 19 points and George Washington beat Saint Louis 73-65 Thursday to reach the third round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.

The fifth-seeded Colonials (23-9), who still hold slim hopes for an at-large NCAA bid, advanced to face fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's on Friday at Barclays Center.

Jermaine Bishop scored 15 points to lead No. 13 seed Saint Louis (11-21).

George Washington led by three in the second half before using a 10-0 run to create some separation from the Billikens. Watanabe's fast-break dunk made it 50-37 with 11:30 left.

The Billikens edged back to within five on consecutive 3s by Davell Roby and Bishop, but Watanabe answered with a 3-pointer at 6:38 to make it 60-52.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Japan was coming off a career-high 22 points against Davidson in the regular-season finale.

Tyler Cavanaugh added 13 points for George Washington and Joe McDonald had 10 assists.
