Bengals DE Michael Johnson named NFL Defensive Player of the Week

Bengals DE Michael Johnson today was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week by the NFL.
Johnson recorded a career-high three sacks for minus-17 yards in the Bengals’ 38-31 win at Washington on Sunday. He totaled seven tackles (six solo). It was the first time a Bengals player recorded three or more sacks in a game since DE Antwan Odom tied a club record with five at Green Bay in Week 2 of 2009. In fact, Odom was the last Bengal to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week — for that performance.
Through Week 3, Johnson leads the Bengals with 4.0 sacks. That total ranks tied for second in the AFC and tied for fourth in the NFL.
This is the second straight week that a Bengals player has earned an AFC Player of the Week Award. CB Adam Jones was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week last week for his performance vs. Cleveland in Game 2, when he returned three punts for 90 yards in the Bengals’ 34-27 home win, including an 81-yarder for a touchdown on the game’s opening punt.
