Badgers hockey swept by Spartans

The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team was swept by the Michigan State Spartans after a 3-1 loss Saturday night at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.

The Badgers outshot the Spartans 27-23, but weren't as dominant on the stat sheet as they were in Friday's 4-3 loss. Freshman goaltender Matt Jurusik make 19 saves, two more than Friday night.

With 1:06 left in the first period, Michael Ferrantino ended the Badgers' hopes of repeating December's series-ending shutout. The senior forward's power-play goal was assisted by Zach Osburn and Villiam Haag.

Wisconsin's Seamus Malone tied it up in the third period with help from Jedd Soleway and Adam Rockwood.

But MSU struck back with a late pair of goals by Mackenzi MacEachern, first with 1:36 left to play and then an empty-netter to seal the win for the Spartans.

The Badgers travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Feb. 26-27. Game 1 starts at 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
