Badgers enter season with No. 23 ranking

Wisconsin's football team will begin the 2013 season ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll, which was released Saturday.

The poll bears a striking resemblance to USA Today's preseason Top 25 ratings, which were released Aug. 1 and also listed the Badgers at No. 23. Five Big Ten teams are included in both polls: Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Wisconsin earned 185 points, just behind No. 22 Northwestern (199) and ahead of No. 24 USC (134). Ohio State is ranked No. 2, Michigan No. 17 and Nebraska No. 18.

The voting panel this year consists of 60 media members, and 58 of them ranked Alabama first. Ohio State received one first-place vote, as did Georgia.

No. 23 Wisconsin opens its season Aug. 31 against UMass.
