Atlanta United selects forward Jon Gallagher 14th overall in 2018 SuperDraft

Atlanta United keeps adding offensive firepower.

With the 14th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, the Five Stripes drafted Notre Dame senior forward Jon Gallagher, a two-time All-ACC selection.

Gallagher tallied 39 goals and 15 assists over the course of his decorated collegiate career. The 5-foot-9 goal-scorer joins an Atlanta United attack that notched 70 goals, second-most in the league, and will once again feature standouts Miguel Almirón, Josef Martinez and Hector Villalba — along with a boatload of intriguing additions.

"The brand of soccer they play is so exciting and I just can't wait to start," Gallagher said.

The pick follows an extraordinarily busy offseason for Atlanta United's front office after landing standout midfielder Darlington Nagbe in a blockbuster trade and dipping into South America to acquire attacking midfielder Ezequiel Barco along with young defenders Franco Escobar and José Hernández.

In their inaugural SuperDraft last January, Atlanta United selected defender Miles Robinson (No. 2 overall) and midfielder Julian Gressel (No. 8 overall). Robinson did not make an appearance in his first MLS season, but Gressel logged five goals and nine assists en route to winning the 2017 MLS Rookie of the Year.
