ASU baseball takes 2nd straight from Arizona

PHOENIX -- Arizona State knocked Arizona starter Xavier Borde from the game before he recorded an out and went on to defeat the Wildcats 13-7 on Sunday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Colby Woodmansee paced a 16-hit offensive attack for the Sun Devils (23-9, 11-3 Pac-12), who scored four runs in the first off Borde and three in the second off reliever Austin Schnabel en route to a second consecutive win over the Wildcats (22-11, 7-7).

The Wildcats got home runs from Bobby Dalbec and Kevin Newman to narrow the deficit to 7-5 in the top of the fifth, but ASU responded with a pair or runs in the bottom of the inning, then put the game away with four runs in the eighth.

Ryan Kellogg (6-1) earned the win for ASU, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. Eric Melbostad worked the final 3.1 innings to earn the seave.

Woodmansee was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Jake Peevyhouse had three hits and scored twice for the Sun Devils.

The three-game series concludes Monday at 7 p.m.
