Arizona baseball coach Lopez in hospital for heart surgery
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona baseball coach Andy Lopez will undergo triple bypass surgery Monday at a local hospital. Lopez, preparing for his 13th year as the Wildcats' head coach, is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery and return to coaching once cleared by doctors. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy and his family,” Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne said Friday evening. "Thankfully the medical team caught it when they did, and we expect Andy to make a full recovery. This is a great reminder for all us to be mindful of our health." Lopez has led the Wildcats to eight postseason berths and two College World Series appearances, including the 2012 national championship. Lopez has a 1,124-685-7 record in 31 years as a collegiate head coach and is 437-267-1 (.621) at Arizona.
