Angels place Matt Shoemaker on 10-day DL

The Los Angeles Angels have placed starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker on the 10-day DL with a right forearm strain, the team announced Tuesday.

Shoemaker, who missed a large portion of the 2017 season after having surgery to release the radial nerve in his same forearm, made a strong impact in his return to action in the early going of 2018.

Shoemaker threw 5 2/3 innings of four hit ball, giving up three earned runs and striking out four in a winning effort vs. the Athletics in his only action this season during the opening series.

With the designation to the disabled list being retroactive to April 1, Shoemaker is eligible to return by April 10.

The Angels have recalled starter Parker Bridwell from AAA Salt Lake Bees. Bridwell flourished in his rookie campaign for the Halos last season, posting a 10-3 record behind a 3.91 ERA in 20 starts.

The Angels will look to even the home-opener series against the Indians Tuesday at 6:30p on FOX Sports West and FOX Sports GO.
