Angels deal Hector Santiago (to Twins) and Joe Smith (to Cubs) at trade deadline

The Angels made two moves on Monday, literally minutes before the MLB Trade Deadline.

Starting left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago and RHP Alan Busenitz were traded to the Minnesota Twins for pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer while closer Joe Smith was dealt to the Chicago Cubs.

Santiago was 10-4 with a 4.25 ERA in 22 starts this season for the Angels. Smith struggled in the closing role, earning only six saves in 37 2/3 innings of work.

The Angels get RHP Nolasco, a Corona native, who is 4-8 (5.13 ERA), and RHP Meyer (0-1, 12.27), a former first-round pick by the Nationals in 2011, from the Twins.

In the Smith deal, the Angels acquired minor league RHP Jesus Castillo from Chicago.
