Ammann wins ski jump World Cup event

KUUSAMO, Finland -- Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland earned his first ski jump World Cup victory of the season by winning a large hill event Friday with the best jump in both rounds.

Amman had jumps of 139.5 and 142 meters for 284.1 points, beating Japan's Daiki Ito by 8 points. Ito jumped 138 and 137.5 meters. Japanese veteran Noriaki Kasai was third after jumps of 131 and 136.5 meters earned him 270.5 points.

This was the second event of the season and Ammann took over the overall lead in the standings from Stefan Koudelka of the Czech Republic, who won the first title in Klingenthal, Germany.
