Activation of Tuivailala, Sherriff from DL spurs return of Gomber, Voit to Memphis

Sam Tuivailala returns from a left knee strain.

ST. LOUIS -- Two injured relief pitchers, Sam Tuivailala and Ryan Sherriff, are back with the St. Louis Cardinals, meaning two other players are on the road back to Memphis.

The Cardinals activated Tuivailala (left knee strain) and Sherriff (right great toe fracture) from the 10-day disabled list Friday. Pitcher Austin Gomber and first baseman Luke Voit were assigned to the Triple-A Redbirds.

Tuivailala pitched in four games (totaling four innings) for the Cardinals before going on the DL on April 10. He got in four innings of work across three games in an injury rehabilitation assignment at Memphis.

Sherriff also did some injury rehab work with the Redbirds, pitching three innings over three games. He had pitched 2 2/3 innings in three appearances for the Cardinals before landing on the DL on April 6.

Gomber, who was named the Cardinals' Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April, was recalled April 29 but had no appearances with the Cardinals. Similarly, Voit did not take the field for St. Louis after being recalled May 1.
