ACC Gameday Experience: Virginia
Editor’s note: As we count down to the start of the college football season, FOX Sports Carolinas ranks the game-day experience around the Atlantic Coast Conference. We unveil the top choice on Tuesday, Aug. 21. (item rankings are based on a scale of 1 through 10):
7 – Scott Stadium, Virginia (61,500)
Beauty (9): Few stadiums and their surroundings can match Virginia’s. This school knows how to do things the right way. The Jeffersonian columns give this stadium perhaps more class than any other in the nation.
Tailgating (6): Pretty good, though there’s a long walk from several spots.
Buzz (4): Scott buzzed big time when George Welsh was at the helm, but that’s dropped off lately. It needs an upgrade.
Fans (4): They used to fill this place but have grown so apathetic it’s hard to tell what it will take to get them to return.
History (4): UVa didn’t find respect in football until the mid-1980s, so the history here isn’t too deep. Maybe the greatest ACC game ever played occurred at Scott, though, when No. 9 Georgia Tech shocked No. 1 UVa in 1990.
Remark: Gorgeous setting, love how the upper deck wraps around, and the hill and columns are a great touch. With wins the UVa faithful should return.
