ACC Coming Attractions: FSU, Duke keep the good times rolling
The ACC's top 25 teams are all in action this week, and there's a very real chance both division races could be settled by this time next week -- even with a relatively light slate.
Each conference game has meaning, even if the ranked and favored are big favorites. Don't believe me? Judge for yourself.
But hey, if Wake quarterback John Wolford survives with his body and dignity still intact ... more power to him.
Get your popcorn: Requiem for a Dream. Many can find beauty in it, and maybe you can do. But it will make you feel dead inside.
If Louisville -- the nation's top-ranked defense, before squandering a 21-0 to Florida State last week -- couldn't stop the Seminoles, then maybe no one can.
By all accounts, slumping Virginia (losers of three straight) won't live up to the challenge.
Florida State has plenty of wrinkles to iron out here in the coming weeks, but the Seminoles' offense is as good as you'll find in the country, even though Virginia's front could give them some trouble.
But probably not for long.
Get your popcorn: Kill Bill: Vol. 1. There are scenes in the movie where Uma Thurman takes on a worthy challenger. There are also scenes where she mows down large groups of fighters with ease.
This is probably the latter. This game is essentially the scene before the scene where she fights Lucy Liu and she basically defeats an entire army of school girls and other random ninjas.
Georgia Tech head coach and North Carolina native Paul Johnson can't like that he's gone 0-2 against the North Carolina ACC teams (fallling to Duke at home and at UNC).
Johnson may like this, thoug: His offense now complements a defense that's starting to show improvement, as the Jackets have won two in a row after a brief two-game skid (their only two losses of the year).
Meanwhile, NC State got its first ACC win in the Dave Doeren era last week (at Syracuse), but the Wolfpacks' tackling problems could resurface this week against the tricky, option-based Georgia Tech attack.
Get your popcorn: Pitch Perfect. Because it's set in North Carolina and it's also one of the three things you can do in the triple option. Even though Johnson insists his team doesn't run a triple option. But whatever.
What could go wrong, right?
Duke has not committed a turnover in its last three games (all wins, of course) and has lost just five turnovers all season. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils are getting healthy at just the right time.
Syracuse is down a number of starters on offense (including its starting quarterback and now, the backup too) and is still mistake-prone and penalty-prone, particularly when it nears the red zone. That's not a very promising recipe.
Although Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer insisted on this week's ACC coaches' teleconference there are no "cracks in the cup", whatever that means.
Get your popcorn: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Because all I could think about when I heard "cracks in the cup" was that scene where the guy has to choose the correct chalice and he chooses poorly. I have no idea what else that would even mean.
Louisville has to figure out a way to bounce back from what was a real kick in the teeth last week against Florida State. The Cardinals still might be a close third in the Atlantic Division behind Clemson.
However, Boston College has just been hanging around all year. This is essentially an anti-climactic battle for third place in the Atlantic, but one that should still be fun nonetheless, as both teams are playing quite well.
Get your popcorn: Jaws: The Revenge. I pick this because most people seem to hate this movie. I am not one of those people. But yes, ultimately it's a pretty pointless movie. It's still fun to watch, though.
