A little off base: Looking ahead to '10

It's always a depressing day when you realize yet another baseball season's come to a close. For those of you who are fans of the remaining eight teams (after the Tigers/Twins game on Tuesday, of course), congrats. For the rest of us, though, these are sad times.

Now it's time to review what went on this past season and look ahead to all the glorious days ahead next April! And yes, I'm already looking ahead. Cubs fans like myself have been doing that this time of year our entire lives.

As always, there were some unbelievable performances, some disappointing ones and some that have us waiting for more. That's what we'll concentrate on here, since next season's already the more important one for fantasy players.

Most Potential

Neftali Feliz, SP/RP, Texas: The youngster with a 100-mph heater has all the potential in the world, but he'd prefer that talent to be harnessed in the starting rotation, not the bullpen, a la Joba Chamberlain. It looks like that'll happen, too. Perez blew batters away this year, to the tune of a 1-0 record, two saves, a startling 1.74 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 31 innings. Not too shabby, eh?! Look out baseball world. If a guy can do this while pitching in the Ballpark at Arlington, he's got serious game. He could be better than both Joba and David Price sooner than you think.
