3-run eighth lifts Wildcats past UC-Davis

TUCSON, Ariz. - A three-run rally in the eighth inning propelled No. 7 Arizona to a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over UC-Davis on a blustery day at Hi Corbett Field.

UC-Davis (6-7) took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning after a bobbled fly ball by center fielder Joey Rickard set the stage for the go-ahead run.

Arizona (10-2) quickly answered back as Robert Refsnyder ignited the rally with a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning against reliever Chris Levy (1-1). Johnny Field drew a walk and Seth Mejias-Brean was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.

Harry Stanwyck replaced Levy, but Trent Gilbert singled through the left side to drive in Refsnyder with the tying run. Following a strikeout, pinch-hitter Bobby Brown hit a hot shot that first baseman Evan Wolf was unable to handle, scoring the go-ahead run. Joseph Maggi then hit a sharp single off the foot of Stanwyck that allowed Mejias-Brean to score Arizona's sixth run.

Mathew Troupe (1-0) recorded the final six outs of the game for the Wildcats to get credit for the win. Arizona starting pitcher Vincent Littleman gave up three runs - two earned - allowed on four hits and one walk in 6.1 innings.

Arizona, which has won five straight games, plays host to Eastern Michigan (3-8) in a three-game series this weekend. The series kicks off on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
