1 on 1: Colin Kaepernick
After Alex Smith was sidelined with a concussion last season, Colin Kaepernick filled in nicely. When Jim Harbaugh decided to stick with the previously unseen quarterback instead of the former number one overall draft pick and seven-year vet, as his quarterback, all eyes shifted to the 49ers.
Despite the QB controversy, Kaepernick handled the internal pressure with ease, and took it a step further, leading San Francisco to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1995.
His combination of speed, mobility, a rifle arm and craftiness (plus a vaunted receiving corps), Kaepernick presents a tough cover for defenses across the NFL. Tested and proven, he's shown the measure of his character on the gridiron, which can be traced to where he came from and the family that is behind him.
Mike Garafolo spent time with the Kaepernicks and found a great story of love and support that made Colin who he is.
