Wait, isn't this the 'Winter' Olympics? Don't tell sleeveless American skier Caldwell

Sun’s out, guns out.

That’s the mantra American Olympic cross country skier Sophie Caldwell lived by Thursday.

With temperatures in Sochi climbing upward of 55 degrees, Caldwell, a Vermont native, and US teammate Sadie Bjornsen decided to ditch traditional ski suits in exchange for tank tops during the women’s 10-kilometer classic event.

“The conditions are definitely crazy,” Caldwell said, via USA Today. “It’s definitely the warmest and softest I’ve skied in in a long time.”

The Americans did not exactly thrive in the near-tropical conditions, with Bjornsen — the top American finisher — coming in 18th place and Caldwell finishing 32nd. Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland took home the gold.
