The USOC Team of the Year nominations are out, and the women rule
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- All three nominees for the U.S. Olympic Team of the Year award are women's teams.
The world-champion bobsled and water polo teams and the World Cup champion soccer team are the nominees in the voting, which is open to fans from Thursday through Nov. 20.
Female Olympian of the Year candidates include gymnast Simone Biles, who just wrapped up her third straight world and all-around and team titles. Also on the list is Serena Williams, who came up just short of the calendar-year Grand Slam, and Katie Ledecky, who became the first swimmer to sweep four individual freestyle events at the world championships.
Among the men's candidates are skier Ted Ligety and decathlete Ashton Eaton, who set the world record in the event this year.
