Swiss skier Yule surprise leader of slalom after 1st run

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) Daniel Yule of Switzerland is the surprise leader of the men's slalom race at the World Cup finals after a perfect opening run on Sunday.

Yule, whose best finish in the slalom is sixth, leads for the first time in his career.

The home fans went wild as the 23-year-old crossed the line 0.20 seconds ahead of Andre Myhrer, who ended up in third place after the opening run. Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag was in second, 0.04 behind Yule heading into the final run.

Marco Schwarz finished just 0.01 behind Yule, but the Austrian was disqualified after he did not pass through a gate correctly.

Henrik Kristoffersen, who has already won the crystal globe in the discipline, was nearly a second slower.

Overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher is 0.32 behind Yule.
