Stockholm considers Winter Games bid

Stockholm will decide next week whether to bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Swedish Olympic Committee spokesman Bjorn Folin says a decision will be announced Monday or Tuesday.

Next Thursday is the deadline for submission of bids to the International Olympic Committee.

Stockholm hosted the 1912 Summer Olympics. Ostersund, Falun and Goteborg have all mounted unsuccessful Winter Olympic bids from Sweden.

Stockholm could go head-to-head with Scandinavian rival Oslo, the Norwegian capital which announced its 2022 bid Thursday.

The other declared candidates so far: Lviv, Ukraine; Beijing and the northern Chinese city of Zhangjiakou; Almaty, Kazakhstan; and a joint bid from Krakow, Poland, and Jasna, Slovakia.

A referendum will be held Sunday in Germany on a proposed bid from Munich.

The IOC will select the 2022 host city in 2015.
