Shaun White confirms plans to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics
After a disappointing showing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, there was talk as to whether snowboarder Shaun White would call it a career.
One of the most talked about Olympic athletes of all time came into the Sochi Games with the hopes of going for a historic third consecutive gold medal in his signature halfpipe event. But White ultimately came up short and failed to medal at Sochi, dropping out of the slopestyle event and finishing fourth in the halfpipe event.
But all those rumors of retirement were unfounded, as White confirmed to "Access Hollywood" on Wednesday that he does, in fact, plan to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
"It was already in my head from before, but it, you know, it takes a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things," White revealed to Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. "Nothing's more motivating than a loss."
This just goes to reconfirm White's declaration that he'd "love to be" at PyeongChang come 2018.
White credited Sochi's disappointing outcome as "the blessing in disguise. ... I feel way more motivated than I did before the Olympics."
