Qatar names daughter of emir to 2020 Olympic bid
The head of Qatar's 2020 Olympic bid has appointed his sister and a prominent businesswoman to top posts in the Gulf nation's campaign.
Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is a son of Qatar's emir and also heads Qatar's Olympic committee, announced Wednesday that business executive Noora al-Mannai would serve as the bid's chief executive officer.
His sister, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, and Sheik Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will serve as vice presidents.
Doha is competing against Rome, Madrid, Tokyo, Istanbul and Baku, Azerbaijan. Doha proposes holding the Olympics in September or October to avoid the summer heat.
