Olympics opponents learn from Boston revolt over 2024 games

BOSTON (AP) Boston's Olympics opponents are exporting their expertise.

Months after turning back their city's bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, leaders of the volunteer movement that forced Boston to withdraw from the international competition are showing activists elsewhere how they did it.

Some were in contact with organizers in Toronto, where opponents say Boston activists helped them quickly ramp up before the city ultimately decided not to bid on the games.

A few Boston activists also recently travelled to Hamburg, Germany to speak to Olympics opponents there.

Artur Bruckmann is a graduate student who helped bring Boston organizers to Hamburg. He credits Boston organizers with urging them to re-double their efforts on social media.

Those efforts paid off: Hamburg residents rejected a referendum on Nov. 29, effectively knocking the city out of contention.
