Olympic torch relay ban for UK Boat Race protester
The protester who disrupted the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge universities has been banned from the London Olympic torch relay route.
Trenton Oldfield jumped into the River Thames and swam cross the path of the rowers halfway through the 158th Boat Race on April 7.
The Australian, who was protesting against elitism and privilege, entered no plea as he appeared at London's Feltham Magistrates' Court to face a public order charge Monday.
He was granted bail until his next court appearance on May 23.
The bail conditions include a ban on coming within 100 yards of the roads that form the 8,000-mile torch relay across Britain and Ireland.
It starts after the Olympic flame arrives at Land's End in Cornwall on May 19.
