Olympic champion Guerdat cleared in horse doping case

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) The International Equestrian Federation has cleared Olympic jumping champion Steve Guerdat and Swiss teammate Alessandra Bichsel of wrongdoing in a horse doping case.

The FEI says it accepts ''the positives were caused by poppy seed contamination.''

Two of Guerdat's horses tested positive for morphine, a controlled medication, and two banned substances at a competition in May.

Bichsel's horse also tested positive for the same three substances that month. Both had used the same feed supplier.

Guerdat and Bichsel were both provisionally suspended on July 20, but their bans were lifted a week later.

The two-month provisional suspensions imposed on the horses expired on Sept. 19.
