Olympian Wescott feted in return home to Maine

Maine's only two-time Olympic gold medalist made a triumphant return to Sugarloaf, riding his snowboard down a hill accompanied by dozens of kids on Saturday.

Seth Wescott won his first gold medal gold four years ago in the inaugural snowboard cross during the Turin Olympics. He wasn't favored to win in Vancouver, but came from behind to collect another gold medal.

Gov. John Baldacci, who joined in festivities, said Wescott has been a role model and embodies Maine's values of hard work. He describes Wescott as an ``unassuming, down-to-earth, dedicated and hard-working guy.''

Wescott grew up 30 miles down the road from Sugarloaf in Farmington. He owns a restaurant near the ski resort.
