Obama gives Team USA a shout out, gets standing ovation at State of Union

President Barack Obama's mention of the Olympics and Team USA brought the Capitol Hill audience to its feet during last night's State of the Union address.

"We believe in the inherent dignity and equality of every human being, regardless of race or religion, creed or sexual orientation," President Obama said during his 65-minute speech. "Next week, the world will see one expression of that commitment --€“ when Team USA marches the red, white, and blue into the Olympic Stadium and brings home the gold."

The issue of equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people has become a prominent issue ahead of the Olympic Games in Sochi because of Russia's new laws banning gay "propaganda" to children. Obama's delegation to the Olympic ceremonies includes prominent gay athletes.
