IOC names 3-city race to host 2018 Youth Olympics

The IOC has picked Buenos Aires; Glasgow, Scotland; and Medellin, Colombia as candidates to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, and rejected two bidders.

The IOC says its executive board declined to put Guadalajara, Mexico, and Rotterdam, Netherlands, forward on the candidate short list.

The full International Olympic Committee membership will select the host city at a July 4 meeting in Lausanne.

The 2018 event will be the third Youth Summer Games since the project was launched by IOC President Jacques Rogge.

Singapore hosted in 2010 and Nanjing, China, will stage the 2014 event.
