IOC members visit construction work in Rio

International Olympic Committee members are inspecting construction work at Maracana and other venues being prepared for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The members of the IOC's Rio 2016 commission are touring construction sites across Rio to observe the city's progress.

On Wednesday, they watched from up close the work being done at Maracana, which is undergoing a complete renovation to accommodate the games' opening and closing ceremonies.

Commission leader Nawal El Moutawakel on Tuesday praised Rio's ''impressive progress'' in getting the city ready to host the first Olympics in South America.

The IOC's three-day visit ends on Thursday.
