American women lead after first 2 runs at bobsled worlds

WINTERBERG, Germany (AP) Elana Meyers Taylor and pushing partner Cherrelle Garrett of the United States held a comfortable lead after the first two women's bobsled heats at the world championships on Thursday.

Meyers Taylor and Garrett have a shot to become the first U.S. women's team to win a world title. The final two heats are on Saturday.

They have a comfortable lead of .39 seconds, after breaking the course record in the first two heats.

Two German crews were in medal positions. Anja Schneiderheinze and Annika Drazek were second, while teammates Cathleen Martini and Schenieder were third, .52 seconds back.

Myeres Taylor says, ''it's not enough to have two great runs.'' She lost the Olympic gold medal in Sochi last year after leading midway through the competition.
