Alysia Montano misses out on Olympics after heartbreaking trip during final race

30-year-old runner Alysia Montano was a favorite to qualify for the United States Olympic, but she finished the 800-meter final at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials Monday more than a minute behind winner Kate Grace after making contact with a competitor and falling on the track with less than 200 meters to the finish.

Montano, who became known as the "Running Mom" for competing in 2014 while eight months pregnant, clipped the leg of Brenda Martinez and stumbled to the ground. The leaders raced away, and a broken Montano forced herself to get up and finish the race before collapsing to the ground.

Montano could still receive an Olympic medals for her fifth place finish in the 2012 London Games if the Russian runners who finished in front of her - who later tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs - are stripped of their medals, but that is understandably little consolation for Montano.
