Wild's Koivu bests Granlund in cup-stacking challenge (VIDEO)
Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu got the better of fellow teammate and countryman Mikael Granlund in a recent cup-stacking challenge.
It didn't look good in the first round for 32-year-old Koivu, who repeatedly saw his tower collapse while his fellow Finn encountered little issue on his end until failing to locate one missing cup. Alertly, the 23-year-old Granlund spotted his mistake and carefully held up the second level while taking a cup from another on the bottom tier to register the first win.
The veteran Koivu learned from his miscues in the second round and made short work of his teammate, who saw his tower collapse just a few cups from completion. Granlund even threatened to knock down the base of Koivu's tower before thinking better of it.
Granlund attempted to make a hasty retreat after falling in the third round before the teammates shook hands.
While Koivu was thrilled with winning this cup battle, it remains to be seen if his team can emerge victorious in a more significant challenge - that being in its bid for the Stanley Cup.
