Watch this hockey player blow the easiest open net goal ever

It's generally pretty hard to score in hockey. A lot of things have to go right for a player to be able to light the lamp, and it usually requires a mix of skill and luck for it to happen. With that being said, when you're a professional with the opportunity to shoot at an empty net from point-blank range, you should probably be able to bury it.

Unfortunately for Frolunda Gothenburg forward Carl Grundstrom, he wasn't able to do that during a recent Champions Hockey League game, and now we all get to laugh at him.

With a one-goal lead in the waning seconds of the third period, Grundstrom had a chance to ice the game for Frolunda and skated in with a clear path to the opponents' vacated net. He decided to attempt a backhander from just a few feet out, but the puck took an unfortunate bounce and hopped over the blade of his stick. He only got enough of it to hit the post. Not ideal.

While that's incredibly embarrassing for the forward, he's very lucky that his team was able to hold on for the win, so at least he can take solace in the fact that he didn't go full Stefan.
