Watch Mike Hoffman deliver a vicious cross-check to Logan Couture's head
Ottawa Senators forward Mike Hoffman should be expecting to receive a call from the NHL's Department of Player Safety this week. He may also want to pick out a new Netflix show to binge, because he's likely going to have some free time thanks to a suspension.
Hoffman delivered a vicious cross-check to the back of the head of Sharks forward Logan Couture on Wednesday night in Ottawa. It was one of the more dirty and unnecessary plays across the league this year, and thankfully it didn't go unnoticed. Hoffman was tossed from the game and the Senators were hit with a five-minute major penalty as a result of the play.
As for Couture, he was injured and left the game. He did not return and the Sharks didn't offer too much detail regarding his status following the game, just that he would be traveling with the team to Montreal.
That wasn't the only dirty play to come from Wednesday's Sens-Sharks game, either. At the end of the second period, Marc-Edouard Vlasic attempted to spear Erik Karlsson in the corner. Refs missed it and Karlsson's teammates and coach were understandably upset, and it led to some on-ice justice being sought.

After the game, Karlsson said Vlasic attempted to "pitchfork me in the face," which is quite the visual.
For anyone wondering, this was the last time these two teams will see each other this regular season, which is probably best for everyone's safety.
