St. Louis Blues Morning Links: Music City Meltdown

Good morning Blues fans. In case you noticed the lack of exclamation point, the Blues sucked the life out of me last night.

The St. Louis Blues crushed quite a few souls last night. Those of you who are a little newer to the game may have taken it harder, but many of us have seen this sort of things before.

There was a little something for everyone and not in a good way. Those that like to pick on the coaching got their fill of line changes as the Blues tried, in vain, to mix things up after things went bad.

The people that like to pick on the goaltending didn’t have as much to whine about since Jake Allen actually played pretty well, but he gave them just enough to nibble on that they turned it into a feast. The fans, such as myself, that have been critical of the defending had more than enough to complain about with their continual backing off the attackers.

Blame who you want, but that was a MAJOR problem. My wife pointed out how the Blues looked like they were killing off a penalty when it was actually five-on-five.

St. Louis had all five of their skaters within stick distance of each other and right in front of Allen. Nashville could have played rock, paper, scissors between each pass since they had so much time on the puck.

It was a ridiculous display from a team that is so much better than we saw. The thing that is even worse is the lack of push back.

The Blues looked like they had no clue what to do once Nashville started scoring. They couldn’t bunker down, they couldn’t get out of the zone, couldn’t muster offense and just did not make any case for winning the game after being up 3-0.

Nobody is giving up on this team. The last couple times we’ve worried they were going to hit bottom, they go on a roll.

The issue is they aren’t figuring out any of their issues. It’s the same old stuff, different day and it’s tiring.

Here are your St. Louis Blues Morning Links to get your day started off right.

The St. Louis Blues are masters of pointing out what they did wrong or what they could have done better. Such was the case last night. The Blues main point was the need to calm things down. (Post-Dispatch)

As fans, we often get so caught up in wins and losses and who to blame, we forget these are people with lives and families.  Such is the case with current assistant and future head coach, Mike Yeo.  He’s been living without his family since they stayed in Minnesota for the year and got to spend extra time with them and decorate the tree due to the luck of the schedule.  (Star Tribune)

In case you missed our article yesterday (you should be checking out the site daily anyway, so what’s your problem?) we discussed whether Brad Hunt might be a possibility for a longer term contract.  He went out and scored his first Blues goal.  (Bleedin’ Blue)

There were plenty of us that were surprised at Chris Mason’s inclusion as one of the Blues Alumni for the Winter Classic.  That said, he is coming off like a true Blue in everything he has said and done since then.  Now, he has honored the Blues’ first goaltender and several key players through the team’s history in one fell swoop.  (NHL)

The clock continues to tick on a decision about whether the NHL and NHLPA will take part in the next Winter Olympics.  As said groups continue to drag their feet, the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) is left twisting in the wind.  (ESPN)

On a lighter note, the Blues play the Devils again so maybe they can get the ship righted once more. We’ll see.
