St. Louis Blues Morning Links: It's Getting Hot In Here

The St. Louis Blues are still out west and north of the border for one more game. They will try to salvage their road trip against the Calgary Flames.

Canadians are known for politeness and hospitality. The St. Louis Blues have been treated rather poorly as guests this past week though.

They started things off with a game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Blues allowed the Canucks to tie it up late and then lost that one in overtime.

The Blues headed a little further east, but found no more luck. Despite scoring first again, they could not hold onto the lead against the Edmonton Oilers and fell in that one 3-1.

St. Louis really didn’t play all that badly in those two games. Scoring only one goal per game doesn’t tend to go well though since shutouts are a rare commodity in today’s NHL.

Now, they are trying to salvage things against some former friends. The Blues will face two former teammates (technically three if you count Dennis Wideman) and also one who grew up watching the Blues.

It’s always nice seeing familiar faces. These are occasions where you need to bury them and then resume friendships afterward.

On paper, the Blues should win. The Flames have struggled to keep goals out and have not played well overall.

That said, facing former goaltenders hasn’t gone too well for the Blues in the past. St. Louis won on paper in the last two games as well and that didn’t quite go as planned either.

So, the Blues have to show up and earn it. They need to score more than one goal also.

On the bright side, if they continue to play with the effort we have seen since the beginning of the season, they will be fine. The goals will come and it is simply down to cleaning up some very correctable mistakes that have cost the Blues in the last two.
