St. Louis Blues Morning Links: Black Gold

Good morning Blues fans! It’s gameday again as the Blues are in Edmonton. They look to shake off the rust picked up in Vancouver.

The St. Louis Blues are looking to get back to winning after a sub-par performance against the Vancouver Canucks. That is going to be difficult as the Edmonton Oilers are scoring goals for fun early in the season.

Heading into tonight’s game, the Oilers are tied for the most team goals scored in the NHL. They have 17 on the season, but have allowed 15.

That’s where the Blues need to be focused. If St. Louis can get their offense rolling early, they won’t have to put so much pressure on the defense or goaltending.

Both teams are coming into this particular match a bit banged up. According to their injury report, Edmonton may be without as many as seven players.

Though their numbers might be higher, they don’t seem to be missing the high profile names the Blues are. That causes several issues in terms of figuring out a lineup or keeping that lineup together within a game.

Still, the Blues pride themselves on defense and goaltending. Facing a potential offensive juggernaut for the next few years will be a good test of the Blues and their new, faster style.

Additionally, this game would be the perfect time for Nail Yakupov to find his scoring touch again. He does already have a goal on the season, but I’m sure he will be more than enthused to show Edmonton they made a mistake by giving up on him.
