Spelling goes wide of the goal in recent fantasy hockey draft
With the NHL season rapidly coming around the bend, friends and co-workers will carve out a few hours to conduct a fantasy hockey draft.
The familiar names will rapidly come off the board - players such as Pittsburgh Penguins phenom Sidney Crosby, New York Islanders captain John Tavares and Tampa Bay Lightning stud Steven Stamkos, just to name a few.
Well, the word "familiar" might be too kind for one well-intentioned soul, who presumably did her best to accurately write down the names of the picks as a recent fantasy draft unfolded. A photo of the draft board was shared by a user on Reddit.
Case in point, how about that Washington Capitals captain who was selected with the second overall pick or that three-time Stanley Cup champion in the second round? Well, Alex Ovechkin (not "Ovechking") and Jonathan Toews (not "Taze") are somewhat tough to spell, so those can receive a pass.
As for the fifth-round selection of Jack Eichel (not "Ikel"), well, he's a rookie for the Buffalo Sabres - albeit a decorated one at that.
Now, "Jaru" with the 10th overall pick is Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux and "Eric Carolson" (Ottawa Senators captain and reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson) are eye-opening to say the least.
And let's not even get started on "Dunken Keith" (Chicago Blackhawks defenseman and reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner Duncan Keith), "Taylor Haul" (Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall), "Hoodler" (Calgary Flames forward Jiri Hudler) and "Koonitz" (Penguins forward Chris Kunitz).
