Sabres coach Bylsma reveals more details regarding G Robin Lehner's setback

Although a Canadian television station was reporting that Buffalo Sabres goalie Robin Lehner suffered a setback in his recovery from a high ankle sprain, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma told reporters he is not aware of any recent setbacks in Lehner's recovery.

Lehner, Bylsma said, will still be out through the Christmas break, but Bylsma said Lehner continues to make progress in on-ice work in the past few days.

Lehner was injured in Buffalo's first game of the season on Oct. 8 against Ottawa. He made 11 saves on 12 shots but left the game midway through the second period after appearing to suffer the sprain following a save on a Mark Stone shot. Lehner was originally scheduled to miss 6-10 weeks with the injury but will miss more time than originally thought, as this week marks 10 weeks since his injury.

"I’m glad you told me about his setback from Canadian TV because I wasn’t aware of one and I don’t know anything about it," Bylsma told reporters. "He did a good number of reps going into his butterfly on the ice two days ago and again today, he had those reps again.

"When you’re dealing with a high ankle sprain, you’re always dealing with some discomfort. That’s why it’s a long and arduous comeback from that and as a goalie going into that position an awful lot, it strains it every time you do that."
