Sabres address banged-up defense by calling up Ruhwedel
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Sabres have recalled defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from the minors to address their banged-up blue line.
Ruhwedel was brought up from AHL Rochester on Monday, hours before Buffalo's home game against the Washington Capitals. Coach Ted Nolan announced earlier in the day that defensemen Zach Bogosian and Andrej Meszaros won't play due to injuries.
Bogosian has already missed one game due to a lower body injury. Meszaros will not play after aggravating a hand injury.
Ruhwedel leads Rochester defensemen with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 59 games. He's yet to play for the Sabres this season. In the previous two years, he's had one assist in 28 career games for Buffalo.
