Russian injuries: Zaripov out, Datsyuk not joining team

PRAGUE (AP) Russia's campaign at the ice hockey world championship has received a blow after forward Danis Zaripov was ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

The defending champion announced on the Russia ice hockey federation website that Zaripov picked up an injury in the opening 6-2 win over Norway on Friday. Zaripov scored a goal in the match.

Another key forward Viktor Tikhonov, who also scored Friday, will miss at least one game due to injury.

In perhaps the biggest setback for Russia, team general manager Andrei Safronov announced that forward Pavel Datsyuk, who was planning to join the team after Detroit Red Wings were eliminated in the NHL playoffs, won't arrive due to an ankle injury.
