Report: Maple Leafs exploring Jonathan Bernier trades
It has not been a great week for Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier, who had a terrible outing against the New York Rangers Sunday night and appears to have lost his starting job with the Leafs.
The news could get worse. A report from Chris Johnston of SportsNet claims a trade could be on the horizon for the goaltender.
"Two rival NHL teams have recently had internal discussions about trying to acquire [Bernier] via trade, according to league sources," Johnston wrote in a recent story over at SportsNet.
Moving probably would not be ideal for Bernier, who signed a two-year deal with the Leafs before this season and has a fiancee and baby boy at home in Toronto. But Johnston is a reliable source, and if he is hearing rumors, it is likely that they are legitimate. Still, considering Bernier's value must be very low right now due to his 0-7-1 record, .895 save percentage and lengthy injury history, it is very possible that these rumors might just be initial conversations.
